Hattiesburg, MS – Dirt Cheap, the "extreme value" retail chain with over 60 stores across the Southeast, has filed for bankruptcy, according to court documents filed with the District of Delaware last week. The chain, known for offering steep discounts on a wide range of products, plans to close all its locations by the end of the year.

Dirt Cheap operates in eight states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas. As part of the bankruptcy proceedings, the stores will hold "store closing" sales, some of which have already begun. The company’s social media channels confirmed that at least one store is hosting its final sale, and a store near Dirt Cheap's headquarters in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, has posted store-closing signs.

The filing also reveals that the holding company behind Dirt Cheap owns several sister outlets, including Dirt Cheap Building Supplies and Treasure Hunt, which are also affected by the bankruptcy. No further details on the future of these additional brands have been provided.
