Johnson came flying in on the ball, leaped, and caught the ball while flipping onto his helmet to the turf.Josh Allen rebounded from an ugly performance against the Houston Texans. He completed 76% of his throws for 215 yards passing and three total touchdowns (two passing and one rushing). The Bills improved to 4-2 on the season and remain in sole possession of first place in the AFC East.Here are five instant takeaways from the game.1. Rapp has his signature game for BillsRapp was all over the field for the Bills, even before his game-securing PBU in the fourth quarter. He came up with a massive hit on Garrett Wilson in the third quarter after the receiver hauled in what looked like a touchdown catch. Rapp’s hit jarred the ball out and the Jets had to settle for a field goal attempt. Veteran kicker Greg Zuerlein missed the 32-yard try off the upright. Zuerlein missed another kick later in the game.2. Ray Davis breakout gameStarting running back James Cook was trending toward playing all week and seemed poised to go when ESPN’s Adam Schefter said his he’d play against the Jets. But shortly before kickoff, the Bills elevated practice squad running back Frank Gore Jr. and had to devise an alternate plan.Veteran running back Ty Johnson started in Cook’s place and took his first carry wide right for a 12-yard gain. However, rookie Ray Davis took over two plays later and led Buffalo on its first opening-drive touchdown since Week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Davis carried the ball six times for 48 yards to bring the Bills down to the Jets’ 1-yard line. Josh Allen ran it in on the quarterback sneak.Davis ran with physicality throughout the game and gave the Bills a leading presence in the run game with Cook out of the action. Davis finished with 97 yards rushing on 20 carries and led the Bills in receiving with 55 receiving yards.3. Unbelievable Hail Mary blunderThe Bills had the Jets right where they wanted them as the first half neared its end. The Bills had just scored a touchdown to go up by 10 points. Then, eight seconds before halftime, the Jets faced a first-and-10 from their own 48-yard line without no time-outs left. So, Bills coach Sean McDermott called a time-out to set up his defense.Rodgers went back to pass and the Bills decided to rush only two defenders. Rodgers waited and heaved his trademark spiral toward the end zone. Taron Johnson was in position to make a play for the ball - preferably knock it down. But he instead tried boxing out Lazard, who leaped into the air and made the grab.Safeties Damar Hamlin and Taylor Rapp were near the receiver but didn’t make enough effort to get in front of him. Nobody thought to jump up and knock the ball down. The Bills have been in this spot before. You’d think that drill has been repped a bunch at this stage.4. Dawson Knox finally breaks throughGoing into the game, Knox was one of the few Bills pass catchers that seemed left out of the “everyone eats” party the Bills offense had created early in the season. Allen said this week that their favorite mantra is “fine and dandy when everyone is, but sometimes there’s people left out.”Knox broke through in the first half on an Allen improvisation. The pressure was mounting in the pocket for the Bills quarterback, who bought some time and started to move to his left, signaling the start of the scramble drill. Knox patiently worked back toward the ball, and Allen fired in a dart for the score.5. Tyler Bass continues to be a problemBass had his first extra point blocked and then severely missed a 47-yard field goal in the third quarter, which would have given the Bills a six-point lead. Bass has been shaky all season, but the Bills maintain confidence in their kicker despite bringing in a pair of kickers for a tryout in September. Bass made a 22-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, but it appeared to just make it in between the uprights.The Bills may now need to consider alternate options again this week as Bass continues to struggle.
