When Jan King and Co. began reaching out to area musicians to gauge their interest in helping Philo’s Terry Miller Brown, the response was universal:

    You bet.

“As much as she’s done for our music community, everyone stepped up without saying a word,” said Rod Sickler, part of a five-person committee organizing The Terry Miller Brown Appecriation Celebration on Nov. 3.

The result: More than a dozen bands are scheduled to perform during the 1-6 p.m. fundraiser at The City Center in Champaign. Proceeds will help Terry as she battles a series of health-related challenges.

“We want to it to be fun and festive,” said King, who pitched the idea after long talks with good friend Miller Brown. Quick to commit: Super Nova, Dream Catchers, Bubble City Playboys, David Wooldridge, New Twang City, Owen Knap, Susan Williams & the Wright Groove, Sammy, All Nighters, Logan Allen, Big Guns, Jimmy Bean and ’90s Daughter.

Founder of CU Bands and Fans — a popular social-media guide to all things local music — Miller Brown has been “tirelessly and unselfishly volunteering her time year after year,” Sickler said. “This is our way of showing appreciation for all she’s done.”

Tickets ($10) are available at the door but there are other ways to help, too: Text ‘LOCALMUSIC’ to 53555, visit givebutter.com/Yfgi59 or email our L.A. Fredrickson at lfredrickson@wdws.com.
