Marking a landmark moment in Clippers franchise history, the Intuit Dome opened its gates to fans last night. Hosting the Mavericks, Coach T-Lue and his squad stamped their inaugural preseason game in the $2 billion arena with a win, improving their record to 3-1.

One of the biggest takeaways from the game was LAC’s dominance on the defensive end, outscoring the Mavs 20-6 in steals and 62-36 in points in the paint. The visiting team had a nightmare regarding turnovers, there were 27 turnovers out of which 20 were from steals.

Clinching their first win in their new home arena, Lue was most impressed with his team’s ability to protect their end of the court. The Clippers coach didn’t forget to give his flowers to Jeff Van Gundy, whose inputs have been of tremendous use.

T-Lue was pleased with defensive efforts against Jason Kidd and Co.

Lue’s emphasis on defense to win games is no hidden fact, the 2016 champion coach has been fortunate to have the likes of JVG join him as an assistant this off-season. Addressing the win against the Mavs, the Clippers coach stated the following .

"I think we had 20 steals? Defensively, it was a great thing to watch," said the former Lakers guard turned Clips coach. Not forgetting to give Van Gundy his props, Lue spoke about how he loved the schemes that the veteran brought defensively.

The Mavericks, who were without their superstar duo Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, expected Klay Thompson to take care of matters, who ended up being scoreless, going 0-for-9 in FGA. To make matters worse, the four-time champion had four turnovers.

Recently, Derrick Jones Jr. revealed how JVG wants the Clippers to be top 5 defensively. Seconding his teammate’s statements, James Harden stated how Van Gundy has been on them about perfecting their defense this season, acknowledging the team knows they have to rely on the defensive lifeline this season.
