AFC Contender Agrees to Blockbuster Trade for Raiders Star WR Davante Adams

It appears there is an end in sight for the ongoing drama between the Las Vegas Raiders and star wide receiver Davante Adams.

Weeks after the 31-year-old wideout requested a trade amid being unhappy with his role in the team’s offense and the fact that Gardner Minshew was Vegas’ starting quarterback, the Raiders found a willing trade partner and a team that game to meet its high asking price, sort of.

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Raiders agreed to trade Adams to the New York Jets on Tuesday morning, reuniting him with former quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

In return, New York will send Vegas a conditional third-round pick that can turn into a second-rounder if he meets certain performance-based criteria.

The Raiders were initially having an issue finding a team willing to offer the second-round pick they were seeking and take on Adams’ $17 million contract (Vegas reportedly refused to take on any of it.)

In three games this season, Adams ranked third on the Raiders in receptions (18), targets (27), yards (209) and touchdowns (one).

It was believed with the Raiders making a switch from Minshew to Aidan O’Connell as the starting QB (Adams has a good relationship with and likes O’Connell) that they could keep Adams happy and on the roster, but it appears the relationship was too fractured.

During their previous run together with the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers and Adams connected for 669 receptions, 8,121 yards and 73 touchdowns, and Rodgers won three of his four NFL MVP awards when Adams was on his team.

The Jets have struggled offensively this season, particularly in the passing game, making the addition of Adams a coup for a team that still has Super Bowl aspirations.

The move also comes less than 24 hours after Rodgers threw one of his receivers, Mike Williams, under the bus for running the wrong route on a play that resulted in an interception in New York’s 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills on “Monday Night Football.”
