ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A fire at a vacant warehouse has led to both lanes of Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge to close for up to the next two days.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), the St. Louis City Fire Department requested all lanes, in both directions, of the bridge across the Mississippi River to closed due to the fire.

On Monday afternoon, St. Louis Fire Department firefighters responded to a two-alarn fire at a six-story windowless cold storage warehouse in the 1800 block of N. Broadway. The warehouse sits adjacent to the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge.

As of Tuesday afternoon, firefighters are still at the scene where they continue to fight it, with smoke continuing to come out of the building.

The St. Louis Fire Department says Tuesday afternoon a demolition crew has mobilized in coordination with the Building Division and Commissioner as demo and fire crews are currently working together to extinguish the fire.

As a precaution, the Musial Bridge is closed to traffic as firefighters are worried about visibility.

MoDOT says they recommend drivers who cross between Illinois and Missouri to use the Chain of Rocks Bridge, McKinley Bridge, MLK Bridge, Eads Bridge, Jefferson Barracks Bridge, or the Poplar Street Bridge.
