After months of drama, trade requests, innuendo and not a lot of football, it appears that the Haason Reddick saga may be coming to an end with the New York Jets. And it isn’t likely to have a happy ending.

According to reports, the New York Jets have given permission to Reddick’s agent to seek a trade for the 30-year-old.

Haason was fired by his agents early this week and Drew Rosenhaus was quick to pick up the former Pro Bowler and start a dialogue with the Jets. Rosenhaus made it sound like he was going to get a deal done between the Jets and Reddick and all would be forgiven.

Apparently, those talks haven’t been very productive. Reddick has been seeking a trade since August, but Joe Douglas has refused to entertain the request , until now.

Rosenhaus will have to move quickly in securing a deal that will satisfy the Jets and Reddick as the NFL’s trade deadline is November 5 th . The Jets have already traded a third-round pick for the pass rusher when they acquired him from the Philadelphia Eagles back in the Spring. Joe Douglas would likely be looking to at least recoup something close to that in order to be willing to move Reddick.

Things will be even more difficult for Rosenhaus because of a clause in the trade the Jets originally made with the Philadelphia Eagles.  If Reddick is traded by the Jets to an NFC team, the 2026 third-round pick the Jets gave the Eagles becomes a second-round pick.  I doubt Douglas will be willing to part with a second-rounder just to get rid of Reddick.

Last week, Jets owner Woody Johnson pleaded for Reddick to join the team. Johnson’s call for Reddick came right after the team fired coach Robert Saleh .

“Haason, get in your car, drive down I-95 and come to the New York Jets,” Johnson said last Tuesday.

Reddick is seeking a long-term deal which the Jets have been unwilling to even discuss until he shows his face in the building, something he has not done since his mandatory introductory press conference.

At this point, with the Jets sitting at 2-4 after another heartbreaking loss on prime time , with a new head coach and a tough road game coming up against the Pittsburgh Steelers, it may be time to simply cut your losses with Reddick. I have long been a proponent of holding onto him as he has no leverage, but the bleaker the season gets, the more apt I am to start hoarding future assets for inevitable rebuild that is coming.
