POWDER published a story on October 9, 2024 that exposed rumors about American ski racing legend Lindsey Vonn's potential return to the World Cup ski racing circuit.

The rumors haven't been confirmed by Vonn or anybody on her team, but she appears to be dropping hints. The star posted a photo to Instagram on October 13, 2024 with a caption that has fans excited. See below.

Vonn began the caption with a nod to her late mother, "Every day is a victory! Proud of how far I’ve come on this journey of life. I’ve had a lot of highs and a lot of lows but nothing has ever broken my spirit. I thank my Mother for that."

She then turned the focus of the caption to what might lie ahead, "With this new knee that is now a part of me… I feel like a whole new chapter of my life is unfolding before my eyes. My adventurous spirit feels full of gratitude. To do the things you love to do is truly a blessing and I don’t take it for granted." Vonn is referencing the total knee replacement surgery she underwent earlier in 2024 after years of battling with severe tri-compartment degeneration.

Vonn wraps up the caption with a tease that should leave her fans excited, "I don’t know exactly what lies ahead but I know I’m healthy, happy and grateful."

Vonn retired from ski racing following the 2019 World Championships. Five years later, and now 39 years old, the 82-time World Cup winner has an opportunity for a comeback thanks to a new 'Wildcard' rule on the FIS World Cup.

The new rule states, "a Wild Card can be granted to athletes who have won either a World Cup Overall Globe, an Event Globe (DH, SG, GS or SL under the condition of a minimum of five (5) World Cup victories), Olympic Gold Medal (Individual) or World Championship Gold Medal (Individual).”

Vonn far exceeds these qualifications with four overall titles, 16 discipline titles, 82 victories, one Olympic Gold Medal, and two World Championship Gold Medals to her name. If she does attempt a comeback under the new Wildcard rule, she'll join Marcel Hirscher as the first two athletes to do so.

Hirscher won 67 World Cup races under the Austrian flag from 2007-2019. He'll make a comeback for The Netherlands on his Van Deer-Red Bull ski brand in '24/'25.
