We knew it was going to happen, and now it finally has. The New York Jets have traded for Davante Adams to pair him once again with Aaron Rodgers.

This deal has been in the works for over a year if you were to believe the reports from last year when the former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver indicated he wanted to be traded. Just a few weeks ago, Adams reiterated his desire to leave Las Vegas and the Jets were at the top of his list of preferred destinations.

Adams is still one of the better receivers in the NFL. He may not be as dominant as he was closing in on his 32 nd birthday, but he is still a matchup nightmare. His connection with Aaron Rodgers is scary. They two were constantly on the same page and think alike based on the coverage they are shown and adjust accordingly without saying a word.

After a heartbreaking loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night, a game in which Aaron Rodgers threw an interception on a pass intended for Mike Williams on the Jets last offensive play of the game, it is clear that the other receivers on the Jets haven’t grasped what Rodgers is trying to do.

Rodgers wanted Williams to be in one place. He wasn’t there. I have a lot of reservations about what Davante Adams will bring to this Jets’ season (and more on that later), but I will say this – if Rodgers expects Adams to be somewhere, Adams will be there. They have a connection from years of practice together.

The Jets didn't give up too much to get Adams, considering his resume.  What’s more, according to reports, Davante Adams is already doing what Haason Reddick refused – show up. Adams is already in the Jets building and ready to work.

I don’t think it will take long for Adams and Rodgers find that connection again. This is a win for the 2024 Jets who get a matchup nightmare and it likely won’t take weeks to get there. Couple that with the fact that things should now free up for Garrett Wilson, and the Jets offense might really kick into another gear. And they are going to need it.

According to statmuse, Rodgers and Adams connected for 7,590 yards and 69 touchdowns in their time together with the Green Bay Packers.

For a team currently sitting at 2-4, this is a Hail Mary play for the season. But as Rodgers has shown several times, he can complete those.
