A 2-year-old filly died after winning a race at Los Alamitos Race Course, state horse racing officials confirmed -- the fourth racehorse to die from a racing or training injury this month and the 14th this year at the Cypress track.

Kiss Then Talk died after winning Saturday's sixth race, according to the California Horse Racing Board.

"After winning the race, Kiss Then Talk was galloping out when she suffered the injury, requiring euthanasia," CHRB spokesman Mike Marten told City News Service.

It was her first victory in three career races, all at Los Alamitos. Track officials did not immediately respond to a request for further details.

Aside from the 14 racing and training fatalities, Los Alamitos has seen eight racehorses die from "other" causes this year, including two this month, according to CHRB data.

The track has also dealt with an outbreak of Equine Infectious Anemia, a potentially fatal infectious disease. Seven horses at Los Alamitos have been euthanized with EIA since Sept. 24. Biosecurity measures have been put in place at the track, and the California Department of Food and Agriculture is overseeing the situation.

Anybody that cares about their horses should never race at Los Al. There’s something seriously wrong with that track. It should be closed. Too many horses have died there.
