The Mini Dome, hailed as the world’s first pentakis dodecahedron (60-sided) tiny home, offers a unique take on downsizing. Designed by Joshua Tulberg of Dodeca Domes, this innovative, geodesic vacation rental maximizes its 308-square-foot (28-square-meter) space with an eye-catching, dome-shaped design. The Mini Dome, inspired by the work of architect Buckminster Fuller, is currently available for short-term rentals and will be sold as a bare hub kit for $15,000 starting in 2025.

Geodesic domes, constructed from interconnected triangles, are favored by eco-home enthusiasts and hobbyists for their distinctive appearance and durability. The Mini Dome features a welded steel hub and wooden struts, all supported on a raised pier and beam foundation, ensuring stability and superior insulation.

    Inside the Mini Dome

The interior layout is spread across two floors and makes the most of its compact space. Entering through the front door reveals the main living area, lit by triangular windows that enhance the home’s geometric appeal. The living space includes a sofa bed and a small dining area with a table for two. The design is cleverly tailored to suit the curving walls, maximizing every inch.

A central unit anchors the home, functioning as the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom, while also providing space for a TV. The kitchen includes a fridge/freezer, sink, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, and cabinetry. The bathroom features a shower and toilet, with the added luxury of an outdoor hot tub.

Access to the bedroom is via a spiral staircase that leads to a simple mezzanine with a queen-sized bed. Unlike many tiny house lofts, the Mini Dome’s upstairs space provides enough headroom to stand upright comfortably.

    Stay or Build Your Own

Currently listed on Airbnb, the Mini Dome offers an opportunity for guests to experience this unique design. For those interested in building their own, Tulberg plans to release the bare hub kit in 2025, allowing DIY enthusiasts to create their own tiny dome for $15,000.

These tiny houses are great and advertised all over but unless you own the property then you must have electricity, sewer/ septic and water hookups
