Former Ohio State star quarterback Justin Fields has not been able to replicate the success he had in college in the pros, and now his career appears to be at a crossroads once again.

After starting the first six games of the season, it appears that Fields is heading to the bench for the Pittsburgh Steelers . Mike Tomlin looks to be going to the veteran Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh.

Fields has the Steelers at 4-2 on the season and has not appeared to have done anything to warrant losing the job. Fields is completing 66 percent of his passes for 1,106 yards, 10 total touchdowns, and two total turnovers. Fields has not only proven he can take care of the ball, but he has given the Steelers a true dual-threat quarterback that raises the ceiling of the offense.

Still, Fields appears to be the odd man out once again just like he was with the Chicago Bears . The Bears moved on from Fields because they didn’t think he was the guy and felt more comfortable with Caleb Williams going forward. In the offseason, the Bears sent Fields to the Steelers for a late draft pick.

The former Ohio State quarterback has taken full advantage of the reps he had been given with Wilson injured.

There is a chance that Fields gets the job back by Wilson handing the job back to him via injury or poor performance. If Wilson plays well, we likely won’t see Fields start another game with the Steelers this season.

That will play out in time, but for now, Fields is benched and his career is a bit more cloudy going forward. Fields is due to be a free agent after the season. The former Heisman finalist wants to be a starter in the NFL and you only get so many chances.
