Eagles Fans All Saying The Same Thing About New Starter

The Philadelphia Eagles may have unearthed a gem in rookie Cooper DeJean. The second-round pick made his first start on defense in Sunday's 20-16 victory over the Cleveland Browns at Lincoln Financial Field, leaving Eagles fans wondering why it took so long to unleash this potential franchise cornerstone.

DeJean's impact was felt on both defense and special teams, showcasing his versatility and playmaking ability. On defense, he played 52 snaps (91% of defensive plays), effectively replacing veteran Avonte Maddox, who saw only two snaps. The rookie's presence was particularly noticeable as a blitzer from the slot position.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio effectively utilized DeJean's skills, sending him on three blitzes during the game. The results were impressive, with DeJean recording a half-sack on one blitz and nearly sacking quarterback Deshaun Watson for a safety on another. His consistent pressure disrupted the Browns' offensive rhythm throughout the game.

DeJean's coverage skills were also on full display, notably when he blanketed Jerry Jeudy in the end zone, giving Watson no window to complete a pass. This play highlighted the rookie's ability to match up with skilled receivers and make crucial stops.

The rookie's impact wasn't limited to defense. As the full-time punt returner, DeJean showcased his shiftiness and vision in the return game. He returned four punts for a total of 51 yards, averaging an impressive 12.8 yards per return.

Despite his impressive debut - and with Eagles fans all saying the same thing about his positive present and future - DeJean remains humble and focused on improvement.

"I felt prepared going out there. The biggest thing was I just had to go play with confidence. I feel like I worked up to this moment with all the help of the older guys and my teammates around me," DeJean said.

At just 21 years old, Cooper DeJean is only scratching the surface of his potential. His ability to impact the game on both defense and special teams makes him a valuable asset for the Eagles. If this performance is any indication, Philadelphia may have found themselves a true dual-threat star and a key piece for their future.
