NFL owners awarded Super Bowl LXII to Atlanta at their Fall League Meeting today, according to a press release. The game will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in February of 2028

The Atlanta bid was led by the Atlanta Sports Council in collaboration with the Atlanta Falcons, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Georgia World Congress Center Authority, Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau, City of Atlanta and the State of Georgia.

Super Bowl LXII will be the fourth time the contest has taken place in Atlanta. The game was played twice at the Georgia Dome (Super Bowl XXVIII in 1994 and Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000) and once in Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Super Bowl LIII in 2019).

Super Bowl LXII joins an unprecedented string of global sporting events coming to the city over the next few years including the College Football Playoff National Championship and MLB All-Star Game in 2025, FIFA World Cup in 2026 and the NCAA Men’s Final Four in 2031.

“This is a tremendous honor for the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia to be selected as host for Super Bowl LXII,” Atlanta Falcons owner and chairman Arthur M. Blank said in a statement. “Thank you to my fellow owners for their trust in awarding Atlanta this opportunity, and thank you to Commissioner Goodell, Peter O’Reilly and the entire league for their continued leadership in making the NFL the greatest sports league in the world. Mercedes-Benz Stadium was built to host the world’s largest sporting events, and I know I speak for many when I say we are honored to bring it back to Atlanta in 2028 and build off the success of Super Bowl LIII in 2019. I look forward to working alongside our city and state officials as we continue to elevate Georgia as a premier, global sports destination.”

“We are so excited to welcome the Super Bowl back to Atlanta in 2028 for a fourth time. As we made clear throughout the process, no city is better positioned than Atlanta to host events of this magnitude,” Atlanta Sports Council President Dan Corso said in a statement. “Super Bowl LXII would not be possible without the incredible cooperation of leaders in the civic and business community who continue to come together to deliver for our city and state.”

Mayor Andre Dickens called Atlanta the “sports capital of the country” following the announcement.

“The Super Bowl is an event that transcends sports, and I can’t wait to see it back here in our city,” Dickens said. “As an Atlanta native, I vividly remember how that first Atlanta Super Bowl showcased our community and helped further propel us forward as the sports capital of the country. We have raised the bar with each subsequent game, and I look forward to outdoing ourselves in 2028.”
