Bourbon Chicken: Everyday Dinner Recipe for the Family

Bourbon chicken is a recipe I fell in love with in high school. From the mall food court. Ever since then, I've been on a mission to recreate this dish in my kitchen.

I'd pair this with a fresh, green salad and a starch on the side like potatoes or rice.

    Ingredients

    • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 1/2 cup soy sauce
    • 1/4 cup bourbon
    • 1/4 cup brown sugar
    • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
    • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
    • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
    • Cooked rice (for serving)

    Directions

    • Sauté Chicken: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
    • Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, add the soy sauce, bourbon, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar has dissolved.
    • Combine Chicken and Sauce: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet, and stir to coat in the sauce. Let it simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
    • Serve: Serve the bourbon chicken over cooked rice and garnish with sliced green onions.

    What do you think?

Have you had this before? It's a favorite of mine because it's sweet and savory. I can get my son to eat it too, which is a plus!
