Halloween Trick-Or-Treating Twist: Some families are handing out potatoes, bags of chips instead

As Halloween festivities kick off across the country, Potatoes USA is urging families to add a delicious and nutritious twist to their celebrations. From monster bashes to trick-or-treating, potatoes can be a fun and affordable addition to the holiday's traditional treats.

This year, Potatoes USA suggests making potatoes the star of your grazing table. RJ Harvey, director of culinary at Potatoes USA, notes, “Potatoes are the perfect balance to all the Halloween sweets. They're hearty, delicious, and bring an element of surprise to your Halloween spread.” Families can create memorable snack tables featuring crispy tots, roasted potato poppers, and mini potato skins, paired with cheeses and Halloween-themed extras.

For a unique twist on trick-or-treating, some families are handing out small spuds or potato chips, providing a nutritious alternative to candy. Kids love the break from sweets, and parents appreciate the nutritional benefits.

Potatoes are also perfect for Halloween crafts, like carving potato jack-o’-lanterns or making spooky potato stamps. After the holiday, leftover potatoes can be transformed into delicious dishes such as Boo! Pumpkin and Potato Stew or Baked Jack-O’-Lantern Potatoes.
