A heater. Yesterday, Charles Wesley Godwin teased a new song written with Ernest and Chandler Walters called "Dead to Rights," and I need the full studio cut ASAP. He shared an acoustic video on Instagram, saying it was inspired by the Simon & Garfunkel classic "The Boxer," which was written by Paul Simon and recorded by Simon & Garfunkel for their fifth and final studio album, Bridge over Troubled Water , in 1970. It became a crossover hit, peaking at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, and I've been loving hearing Godwin dive into music that's inspired him and using it to write these sort of "sequels". Earlier this year, he released a song called "10-38," which was a follow-up to Bruce Springsteen's "State Trooper." I think it shows off his talent and creativity vs a writer, to match these classic songs by timeless writers with his own version of continuing the story. The fact that CWG is writing with Ernest is such a great fit, and makes a ton of sense, especially consider that CWG is now signed to the same label as Ernest, Big Loud. And if Chandler's name sounds familiar, it's because he is Ern's
steel guitar player who is currently out on the road with Post Malone (he co-wrote "I Had Some Help" too). Charles released his first album on a major label last year when he put out his Family Ties record, and I hope this means there's more new music coming soon... "Straight out of the notebook written with Ernest and Chandler Walters. This song is meant to be a sequel to Simon and Garfunkel’s 'The Boxer.' Enjoy!" Check it out:
