Shannon Sharpe Blasts Cowboys Owner for Threatening Radio Host’s Job: ‘I Despise Someone That Would Prey on the Weak’

Shannon Sharpe called out Jerry Jones after the Dallas Cowboys owner threatened a radio host’s job in the middle of an interview.

On Tuesday, wwo days after the Cowboys’s disastrous loss to the Detroit Lions, Jones made his weekly appearance on the 105.3 The Fan show Shan & RJ. During the show, the hosts asked him about transactions the team did and didn’t make in the offseason, and if the team’s current construction plays a role in its early struggles. Jones took offense to that and claimed he could “get somebody else to ask these questions.”

On Tuesday’s episode of First Take, Sharpe explained why he “despised” seeing Jones threaten to use his influence to take away someone’s livelihood:

To put a man in fear for his job — I hate, I detest, I despise someone that would pray on the weak. And because Jerry Jones is an advantageous situation, because he has the power in this situation, he would actually say that publicly. That that tells me a lot about a man. That’ll tell me a lot about a man that has power and would abuse that power, to tell that man, “I will get somebody in here to ask me favorable questions.”

That is absolutely that guy’s job is to ask Jerry… [Stephen A. Smith], what you should have done is said, “Well, Jerry, you see the way you guys were getting ran through last year? And you mean to tell me you had guys on the bench that could have done a better job, and you’re waiting until this year to play them? That doesn’t sound very smart to me.” Well, I don’t know about you, [Jeff Saturday and Marcus Spears], but normally, guys that can play, they normally play.

But back to this: What do you think his job was? See, Jerry wants all the credit when things go well, but none of the blame. He told us how many times, “The buck stops with me. Any deal that’s ever happened, I either signed off on it or I got notified of it.” Now, you’re getting trounced. You’re getting run through like Sherman went through Atlanta during the Civil War, and now you want no part of it when they ask you about it.

Boy, this is a bad — and I don’t take this lightly. If the Cowboys don’t win another playoff game or another game, as long as Jerry Jones is the owner, I’ll be the happiest man in the world. For that man to put that man in fear for his job — now, you know moving forward, Saturday, [Spears], Stephen A., you know he’s not gonna ask him anything tough because that man needs that job, and for Jerry to say this publicly and said, “I’m not laughing. I’m not joking,” I’m out, I’m out, I’m out, I’m out.

Will see if JJ really does step down as GM. I hope so as he has not done a great job with them.
