<div>A local community center connects students, builds community and supports ministry. The Newman Center has been a spot for Morehead State University students and people of the Rowan County community to learn more about their faith for years. The center works closely with Jesus Christ our Savior Church to offer opportunities for personal and spiritual growth.Ronald Sagum, the father of Jesus Christ our Savior Church, said the center is a place for students to hang out with their peers.“We have the Newman Center here for students if they want to study or have coffee here if they want to have a space to relax and rejuvenate for the next class the Newman Center is open for them,” said Sagum.The Newman Center also offers opportunities for students to get involved with community service projects. Paul Delaney, a junior at MSU majoring in astrophysics, has been the president of the Catholic Newman Center for three years. He said the center wants to be a place Morehead residents can rely on. “There is a blessing box out front. I know a lot of times the church will do monetary donations for pregnancy help centers, we take food donations for a food pantry or soup kitchen,” said Delaney. “The Newman Center will occasionally hand out blessing bags for the homeless and they will be distributed to homeless aid centers of the area.”Sara Larson is the assistant director for academic advising and retention at MSU. She has been working as an advisor for the Newman Center Program for three years. Larson and Darinda Marriner, director of Catholic Campus Ministries, organize a weekly service project every Tuesday night for the Rowan County community.“One of our outreach activities is we make goodie bags that Bill Redwine takes out when he delivers the Meals on Wheels,” said Larson.
