The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is set to deliver exceptional service during the upcoming 2024 holiday season, backed by significant advancements made under its Delivering for America plan—a $40 billion investment aimed at revitalizing the national postal network. Throughout 2024, USPS has focused on achieving the objectives of this 10-year plan, enhancing operational, transportation, and delivery processes.

“Our operational, transportation, and delivery processes have never been more finely tuned,” stated Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. The Postal Service is now leveraging network modernization, an upgraded delivery fleet, and the successful launch of USPS Ground Advantage and USPS Connect services to create a reenergized, integrated mail and package network.

This efficient and reliable network positions USPS to handle the increased volume of mail and packages typical during the holiday rush. Key accomplishments include expanding daily package processing capacity to approximately 60 million—nearly tripling since 2020—allowing for faster movement through the postal network. The Postal Service plans to hire 7,500 seasonal staff this year, down from 10,000 last year, reflecting a stabilized workforce and improved processes.

Additionally, USPS has allocated nearly $17.3 billion from its investment budget to revamp the postal delivery and processing network, significantly upgrading its fleet with 106,000 new vehicles, including 66,000 zero-emission electric vehicles. The introduction of new shipping services has further enhanced capacity and efficiency, ensuring a seamless experience for customers during the holidays and beyond.

They need to work on delivering mail to the correct address’s and do something about the price of US postage stamps. Seems like every other year they’re raising the price of postage stamps.
