WWE Legend Jerry Lawler Reveals ‘Big Problems’ With His Health, Why Commentary Career Is Over

One of the most beloved commentators in WWE history, Jerry Lawler, is reportedly having serious health problems that have likely brought an end to his legendary commentary career.

For many long-time professional wrestling fans, Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler are like the Pat Summerall and John Madden of WWE. They were the voices fans grew up hearing during a pivotal period in their wrestling fandom. However, all things come to an end, and it has been years since Lawler or Ross were heard on WWE television.

While he hasn’t worked for the company in a long time, Jim Ross has remained active as an analyst for All Elite Wrestling in recent years. That hasn’t necessarily been the case for the Memphis wrestling legend known as “The King.” Since his full-time run with the company ended in the previous decade, he has mostly stayed out of the industry spotlight as he battles various health ailments.

And unfortunately, it seems those health problems probably won’t ever let him return to the announce table. At least not for WWE.

Jerry Lawler has suffered a pair of strokes in recent years

“Well, my health has been a big problem for me lately. I had a couple of strokes,” Jerry Lawler revealed in an interview with Sportskeeda this week. “That’s what cost me my deal with WWE, with my commentating because my voice, it’s not perfect, but it’s not good enough to do commentating. So I’m still with them on a [Legends Deal]. Still part of the family. The best part of that is I think four times, I get a nice, big check, and that’s good.”

When asked if he missed doing commentary work, the WWE Hall-of-Famer surprisingly claimed he didn’t. Since he was tired of the work towards the end of his WWE career.

“When I finished it, 10-15 minutes before it was over, I was thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, how much longer is this gonna last?’ he said. “As soon as it was over, I just got up and went about my business. Left the studio and went about being Jerry Lawler.”
