Road rage continues in Virginia

Adam Cofield, Patrol Lieutenant with Isle of Wight Sheriff's Office, said in a road rage incident a year ago one driver "pitted" another. Virginia authorities say if you find yourself near a violent driver throwing things, using their vehicle as a weapon, or pulling a gun, behave wisely.

It's also being emphasized that you can only control your own behavior.In early September in Louisa County a woman's vehicle rolled over after she exhibited road rage on another driver.

Virginia drivers have been dealing with road rage for the past few years. Two recent incidents in Hampton Roads led to authorities asking Virginians not to engage. 13 News Now reports three people involved were hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

The first incident happened in James City County on Oct. 5, where police officers arrested Joseph Paul Adams for 24 offenses. Adams allegedly shot into a car carrying three people, and injured two.

A week later, the second incident occurred in Chesapeake on I-664 at the Pughsville Road off-ramp. Virginia State Police are looking for the suspect driving a white Nissan Maxima. Investigators revealed this individual allegedly shot another driver in a case of road rage.

It's also recommended that you don't make eye contact with the other driver, don't get out of your vehicle, and leave enough room around your car so you can escape if necessary. In 2023, Virginia was number four in the nation for road rage. If you are in a situation, dial 911 or #77 to contact the Virginia State Police if necessary.
