Packers Work Out Super Bowl Champion Kicker

Ever since the departure of Mason Crosby, the Green Bay Packers have had an endless number of question marks at kicker. And even prior to that, the Green Bay special teams had been consistently among the worst in the NFL. Of course, this was largely due to General Manager Brian Gutekunst's philosophy of roster construction.

The Packers have since invested more in their special teams, and it has brought good results for the most part. The one issue has been at kicker, which the Packers continue to look to the cheap and inexperienced option (for some reason). That may change soon though, as Green Bay has recently worked out a veteran kicker. This veteran, in fact, is also a Super Bowl champion.

Green Bay Packers Workout Kicker Brandon McManus

Following the Green Bay Packers Week 6 victory that saw kicker Brayden Narveson miss another field goal, Green Bay has made the decision to workout a veteran kicker who has proven he can kick in the NFL -- a bit of a change from their previous strategy. On Tuesday, Brandon McManus worked out for the Packers.

The rookie Narveson is now 12/17 for the season. His 70.6% hit rate is the second-worst in the NFL (behind only Jets' Greg Zuerlein). While it wouldn't be surprising to see Green Bay keep Narveson this week, one has to imagine this will be his final chance to prove he can be relied upon.

Brandon McManus most recently kicked for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023, hitting 81.1% of his field goals with a 56-yard long. For his career, McManus has hit 81.4% of his kicks. He routinely has been viewed as among the best kickers in the NFL, and he even kicked for the Super Bowl-winning Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50, proving he can be relied upon when it matters.

McManus was most recently released by the Washington Commanders after he was accused of sexual assault by two flight attendants. However, insufficient evidence was found. He will not be punished by the NFL, and he has a clean track record aside from this supposed incident.

What do you think? Should the Green Bay Packers make the move of signing Brandon McManus this week, or should they give Brayden Narveson one final chance?
