Wolves predicted to further revamp roster with trade for $160 million star

Extending their championship window was the goal in mind for the Minnesota Timberwolves when they traded away star big man Karl-Anthony Towns.

So would they target a star older than the 28-year-old Towns? Bleacher Report believes it's within the realm of possibilities, as they named Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant as an ambitious trade target for the Wolves.

"The front office, at the very least, probably wants to give the new group a couple months to mesh," B/R's Andy Bailey wrote. "But [Julius] Randle’s ball-dominance and iffy jump shot make him a tricky fit with Anthony Edwards and a non-shooting center in Rudy Gobert. And he might get more expensive as early as this summer (when he can become a free agent)."

If Minnesota's front office realizes the combination of Randle and Edwards is failing, moving on could be their only option. The 30-year-old, Grant, is an expensive star available for trade, considering he doesn't fit with the timeline of Portland's plethora of youth.

"Minnesota could justify re-routing him to the Portland Trail Blazers (who could use the flexibility of an expiring deal) for Grant, who’s a better outside shooter and requires fewer isolations to be effective," Bailey wrote. "At least in theory, Grant is the more versatile, switchable defender, too."

Grant is set to earn roughly $132 million over the next four seasons , placing another obstacle in this potential deal. It feels the Timberwolves are looking to place a new core around Edwards, but only if the price is right.

Bringing in the extra two years of Grant's contract compared to the pair of seasons left on Randle's contract would raise questions if the trade occurred.
