The Pittsburgh Steelers are making a lot of big decisions ahead of Sunday's matchup with the New York Jets.

After Mike Tomlin threw a major curveball into the QB discussion , the team later announced they were pulling out a classic.

The block numbers are coming back, along with a change to the facemask to celebrate a big anniversary.

Steelers to wear throwbacks vs. Jets

The Steelers will wear their throwback jerseys this week when they host the New York Jets at Acrisure Stadium, a game where the team will honor the 50th Anniversary of Super Bowl IX.

The jerseys feature block numbers and letters on the traditional black jersey, a nod to the same jersey the team wore in the 1970s, including the 1974 season when the Steelers won Super Bowl IX, their first of four championships in the decade. The players will also have a unique twist this year and wear gray facemasks on their helmets as well, the same color they wore in 1974.

    Teresa Varley, Steelers

"As we approach the 50th Anniversary of Super Bowl IX we think it is a good time to celebrate the team that ushered in an era of great success," Steelers President Art Rooney II told Steelers.Com "We're excited about being able to celebrate that pivotal time in Steelers history and honor the team that started it all."

This is the fifth time the Steelers have worn their throwbacks, but the first time they have added the gray facemask, a special homage to the championship team from 1974.

How has the team faired in their four prior appearances when wearing the block numbers?

    4-0

The team boasts wins over the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas Raiders, and most recently, the Green Bay Packers while wearing the distinct uniform.

So while the Jets ride their wave momentum following the massive Davante Adams trade , it's safe to say the Steelers are planning on crashing their party.
