Most college football teams are halfway through the season as they prepare for Week 8. With the expansion of the College Football Playoff, several teams are still competing for a spot in the postseason tournament.

One of those teams is the Ole Miss Rebels, who seemed like a lock just a few weeks ago. Now, their playoff chances seem to be hanging by a thread.

The Rebels started the season 4-0, outscoring opponents 220-22 in the process. They were ranked as high as No. 5 in the country before suffering a shocking 20-17 loss at home to the Kentucky Wildcats.

The Rebels rebounded with a dominant 27-3 victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks, setting up a showdown against the LSU Tigers on the road. However, the Rebels lost 29-26 in overtime after Garrett Nussmeier connected with Kyren Lacy for a 25-yard touchdown pass on LSU's first offensive play in OT.

On the "Paul Finebaum Show," the SEC Network analyst stated that he believes the loss was a significant blow to the reputation of head coach Lane Kiffin.

"That was a big hit to his reputation," Finebaum said. "It's as simple as that."

Finebaum also mentioned that he feels this Ole Miss team is the best it has had in over 50 seasons. Now, the Rebels have two losses and still having to play teams like the Georgia Bulldogs, Oklahoma Sooners and Arkansas Razorbacks. Finebaum wonders if Kiffin can't win with this team, who can he win with?

Kiffin will have to prove the doubters wrong after the bye week when Ole Miss plays Oklahoma on October 26.
