Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables takes quarterback controversy to a whole new level

The Oklahoma Sooners are still trying to fix their offense. It's taken all the way to their seventh game to realize that it is as bad as it is. They started the season with a 50-point game against the Temple Owls , but even then you could see that there were offensive problems. Those began to show even more against the Houston Cougars.

The Sooners need some more of that magic they had against the Auburn Tigers. However, they need permanent magic on the offensive side of the ball. Last game against the Texas Longhorns , the offense managed to score just three points in what was their biggest game of the season.

Because of that showing, fans and media around the country were asking if the Sooners would make a quarterback change like they did when they lost to the Tennessee Volunteers.

After the loss, Venables was asked if he ever thought about going from Hawkins Jr., back to Arnold. He said he never even thought about it. He let the true freshman stay in and try to learn from all of his mistakes.

As for Arnold, since we didn't see him enter the game when many thought he should have, there is a feeling that the former five-star quarterback could transfer after redshirting this year, as he has only played in four games.

"He wants to be the starting quarterback at the University of Oklahoma... I feel like it’s only right to give Mike the opportunity a chance to be the guy and have a body of work," head coach Brent Venables said.

So, if he's not going to redshirt and transfer, what is going to happen with Arnold? Do they plan on playing him? Are they going to do a two-quarterback system?

“I'm certainly not immune to anything. I know Steve Spurrier did it... That being said, it'd be great if you had one that you could get behind," Venables said. "I would certainly not put it out of the realm of possibility in the future.”

That certainly adds another wrinkle to the now-confusing quarterback controversy in Norman, Oklahoma. For now, they are sticking with Hawkins Jr. However, now that we know it's the offense that's the problem and not one singular quarterback, it would be nice to see Arnold back in there when a spark is needed.
