Two-time defending champion Ryle reaches final four in 9th Region boys soccer tournament

Ryle won the 9th Region boys soccer tournament the last two years. Covington Catholic is the top-ranked team in this year’s bracket. They will face each other in a semifinal match at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Dixie Heights.

Both teams posted high-scoring wins in Tuesday’s opening round. CovCath defeated Newport Central Catholic, 6-1, and Ryle knocked off Dixie Heights, 5-2. In their regular season match, CovCath blanked Ryle, 3-0, on Sept. 10.

In the other 9th Region games on Tuesday, Highlands defeated Beechwood and Conner defeated St. Henry by matching 1-0 scores. They will meet in Thursday’s 7:30 p.m. semifinal match.

Campbell County advanced to the final four in the 10th Region tournament with a 3-1 win over Bourbon County on Tuesday. The Camels will play tournament host Mason County at 8 p.m. Thursday.
