The car crossed into the eastbound lane and continued onto the shoulder before plunging down a steep, rocky slope. The vehicle overturned several times, eventually coming to rest several hundred feet below the highway.Passersby and first responders made lifesaving efforts, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.The CHP’s Susanville office is currently investigating the collision. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Susanville Communications Center at (530) 252-1900.The CHP extended thanks to all those who stopped to help and acknowledged the assistance of CalFire, Tehama Fire-Mineral, St. Elizabeth’s Ambulance, Reach 5, the Tehama County Sheriff’s Department, and Chester Caltrans.Motorists are reminded to exercise caution and reduce speed when traveling on mountain roads.</div></body>
