Stephanie White's Contract Situation Gets Unexpected Twist Amid Fever, Sky Links

It's not the Chicago Sky who are searching for a new head coach in the offseason. The Los Angeles Sparks and the Atlanta Dream are also in the hunt after deciding to part ways with their respective coaches.

Stephanie White, who is currently the head coach of the Connecticut Sun, has been a hot name on the market. As it turns out, however, White might not be available for the Sky -- or for any other interested team, for that matter.

Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times previously reported that White " isn't expected to return " to Connecticut this coming season, which is what fueled speculation about a move to a different team. In fact, even Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever fans were hoping that the team would bring back White, who is an ex-Fever head coach (2015 to 2016) and a former player as well (2000 to 2004).

In an unexpected twist, however, Costabile reported on Tuesday that White might actually be back with the Sun in 2025.

"Update on Stephanie White contract situation, her current deal has her tied to the Sun through the 2025 season sources say," Costabile tweeted .

"As previously reported, White will still be a highly sought-after coaching candidate for vacancies around the league. That said, the ball is Conn court."

The Silver lining here for the Sky, the Fever, or any other team that might be interested in these services of White is that this development does not necessarily mean the end of their supposed chase for the in-demand shot-caller.

Before she is able to pursue other job opportunities, however, Connecticut will have to terminate White's contract first. As it stands, the fate of the former WNBA Coach of the Year is in the Sun's hands.
