Borussia Dortmund have tried to bring back their former coach Jürgen Klopp but their offer was refused, according to the Sport Bild weekly on Wednesday.

The report said that managing director Hans-Joachim Watzle made Klopp an offer some two and a half years ago, when he was still coaching Liverpool.

Klopp was reportedly offered a job of his choice - as a coach or in another function - but he said he no longer wanted to work for just one club after his time at Liverpool and wanted to gain new experiences.

Klopp was recently announced as head of global soccer at energy drink giants Red Bull and will start the new job next year. According to reports, he signed a five-year contract without a release clause.

As a coach, he won the Bundesliga in 2011 and 2012 with Dortmund before moving to Liverpool, where he won the Champions League and Premier League.
