The mornings are a little cooler, and the leaves are starting to change colors. This means just one thing — winter will be here before you know it.

However, before the snow arrives to many parts of the country, it’s important to stock up on the items you’ll need to get through the winter.

    Plant Supplies

If you live in a part of the country where the winters can be harsh, it’s not possible to keep your garden going year-round. However, instead of throwing it all away in the fall, many people like to move it indoors when possible.

While some things can’t be replanted, many flowers and herbs can be transplanted into pots. To make this all happen at a reasonable cost, you can stock up on plant supplies from Dollar Tree.

They have a wide selection of plastic and clay pots , plus you’ll find marbles for water retention and saucers to use under the pots. Most of these items start at just $1.25.

    Caulk and Window Insulation Kits

If you have an older home, there’s a good chance you have some spots around windows and doors where air gets in. During the cold winter months, this can make it colder than you’d like inside.

One of the best ways to help solve this problem is to make sure your windows and doors are properly caulked. Dollar Tree sells tubes of Tool Bench all-purpose caulk for just $1.25.

If you have older windows, they may cause most of your problems. In this case, a window insulation kit would be useful.

Dollar Tree sells Tool Bench window insulation kits for $1.25 each. Simply attach the plastic film to your window frame, and it will keep cold air drafts out all winter.

    Door Mats

If your home is anything like mine, the floors can get extremely dirty during and just after a snowstorm. When you come inside, you’re tracking dirty, melted snow everywhere.

This is when a doormat can be useful. Instead of tracking the snow all over your floors, you can simply leave your shoes on the mat and this will help contain the water.

Dollar Tree has a large selection of door mats, from rubber-backed mats that help keep them in place to holiday-themed mats . All of these mats start at just $5 each.

    Plastic Tarps

If you leave anything outside during the winter that you don’t want to be affected by the weather, putting it under a tarp can be a great idea.

For example, I have a pile of firewood that I want to keep dry when it snows or rains. I place a tarp over the wood, and then I don’t need to worry about drying it out before burning it in the fireplace.

You could also use a tarp to cover patio furniture. While you can buy covers specific to this purpose, they can be expensive. Instead, these blue tarps from Dollar Tree start at just $3 each.

    Christmas Decorations

Everyone loves having their home decorated for the holidays, and it’s always fun to pick up new Christmas decorations each year. However, this year, instead of buying something new, why don’t you make something yourself?

Dollar Tree has a blog post that walks you through making a DIY Christmas Mantel Swag . They give you step-by-step instructions and also provide a list of everything you need — all of which can be purchased from a Dollar Tree store.
