Chilly Weather and Frost Advisory Sweep Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania

Brief clearing ahead, but bundle up!

Cold air grips Northeast Ohio with frost warnings and lake-effect showers. Expect drier, sunnier conditions by the weekend as high pressure settles in.

[CLEVELAND] — Issued by the National Weather Service at 6:46 AM EDT on October 16, 2024.

Cold Morning Temperatures and Lake-Effect Showers Hit Northeast Ohio

The National Weather Service warns of frosty conditions and cold temperatures sweeping across Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania today. Early-morning frost advisories and freeze warnings are in effect until 9 AM, urging residents to take precautions for sensitive plants. Lake-effect showers will persist through this morning, but conditions are expected to improve later in the day.

When Will the Rain and Frost Conditions Ease?

By early afternoon, shower coverage is expected to diminish as the moisture tapers off. Areas to the west of I-71 will see more sunshine compared to the northeastern parts. However, tonight’s temperatures will dip even further, with lows between 30-35°F, prompting another round of frost and freeze warnings to be issued by the NWS.

Residents can expect highs today between 48-55°F, with slightly warmer conditions in sunnier western areas.

What’s the Weather Outlook for Thursday and the Weekend?

A high-pressure ridge will begin building in from the west by Thursday, ensuring dry and sunny conditions through the weekend. Here’s the expected forecast for the coming days:

    • Thursday: Mostly sunny with highs 55-60°F
    • Friday: Clear skies, highs reaching mid-60s
    • Saturday: Beautiful, sunny weather with highs near 70°F
    • Sunday: Mild temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s, perfect for outdoor plans
