Luis Diaz is back in the Colombian media's good books after playing a starring role in a 4-0 win over Chile. The Liverpool winger scored the second goal in the emphatic victory as his country returned to winning ways in World Cup qualifying.

Colombia went into the game off the back of a surprise defeat by Bolivia over the weekend, and the win over Chile means the Copa America finalist has lost just once in 10 World Cup qualifiers.

Only Argentina has picked up more points than Colombia, which sits second in the CONMEBOL standings, and Diaz was widely praised for his display in the Colombian media, having been criticized for his showing in the loss to Bolivia.

Futbol Red said: "One of those who has been constantly criticized has been Luis Diaz for his individualities in Colombia, but this time the Liverpool winger had synchronicity and ended up being one of the key figures, even managing to score the second goal which calmed the game.

"Diaz played a total of 76 minutes against Chile and with his only shot on goal, he scored a goal. He receives a match rating of 7.3 out of 10, which serves to ward off those criticisms when he plays for the national team. Then he received a well-deserved rest when he was replaced by Luis Sinisterra.

"Not only did scoring help Diaz gain confidence, but it also allowed him to get closer to the scoring record within the Colombian National Team. The winger is now on 16 goals for Colombia, equalling Carlos Bacca. Diaz is only surpassed by Freddy Rincon (17), Faustino Asprilla (20), Arnoldo Iguaran (25), James Rodriguez (29) and Radamel Falcao (36)."

Meanwhile, El Heraldo , which handed Diaz a 5/10 for his performance against Bolivia, gave him a much-improved 8/10 ratings against Chile, saying: "Superb match. He was almost always unstoppable on his side and scored a goal."

El Espectador , meanwhile, praised Diaz for his clinical finish. "The captain [James Rodriguez] put pressure on the Chilean defence, who were playing on the edge of their area. Having recovered the ball, the Cucuta native assisted Luis Diaz, who entered the area and finished with quality."
