Roy Jones Jr has announced his readiness to "get into shape" for a potential showdown with Jake Paul , should he need to fill in for Mike Tyson . The 55 year old boxing icon expressed his willingness to step in after the original date for the highly anticipated match between Paul and Tyson was delayed .

'Iron Mike' was scheduled to face off against Paul on July 20, but the event was postponed due to Tyson being medically unfit to fight following an ulcer flare-up. Jones, one of the sport's all-time greats who once faced Tyson in an eight-round exhibition that wasn't officially scored, is open to the idea of taking on Paul.

"I'm kind of thinking about that," Jones admitted to Betway earlier this year regarding the possibility of fighting Paul. "I might try and get into shape in case that happens. Maybe I get myself in shape for that."

He added, "I never thought about doing it before, but with the situation of the fight, I think that's a great idea, and I'll be ready and in shape because if the fight doesn't happen, then the ideal guy to substitute in place of Mike Tyson to fight Jake Paul is something I have been thinking about. If the fight is out there, then yes."

Even though he put his boxing gloves in the past six years ago, Jones couldn't resist making a comeback for a bout with ex-UFC champ Anthony Pettis last September, which ended in a points defeat. The former heavyweight king also had his say on the whispers about him stepping into the ring with Tommy Fury, one of Jake Paul's previous adversaries, and opened up about the chance of duking it out with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, expressing his enthusiasm: "There was obviously the Tommy Fury thing that came up, and then, the other day, somebody asked me whether I would fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in an exhibition, and that's crazy."

While mulling over the much-ballyhooed prospective fight, Jones conceded he can't envision Paul triumphing over Tyson, branding the latter as potentially "too much" for the influencer turned prizefighter. Chatting with FightHype, Jones delineated his thoughts: "It's a young lion and an old lion. It's a great situation for them. It gives Jake a chance with Mike being as old as he is. I think it's a great opportunity for both fighters but I still think Mike is gonna be a little bit too much for Jake."

Despite Jones's eagerness, sources suggest Tyson is now shipshape and ready to tackle Paul. Tyson faced a health scare when a severe ulcer flare-up triggered dizziness on his journey from Miami to Los Angeles back in May, but he's reportedly recovered.

Paramedics rushed to attend to Tyson at LAX and after examining him, they confirmed the incident but assured that he was in stable condition. Tyson disclosed to Mail Online the cause of his health scare: "I was doing too much bad food and stuff, and I got sick."

Amidst this, Tyson eagerly prepares for the upcoming face-off with Paul on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, where they are expected to compete before nearly 90,000 spectators, with the event broadcasted live on Netflix. This heavyweight fight will be an official match regulated by The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
