Alaska Airlines is set to make significant changes to its Mileage Plan program in 2025. The overhaul will introduce new ways for members to earn elite status, even when not flying, and will include milestone perks that can be selected at various stages. Alaska is also updating its upgrade policies and allowing progress toward elite status during award travel, similar to hotel loyalty programs.

The first wave of changes will take effect before the airline merges its loyalty program with Hawaiian Airlines, which Alaska acquired last month. Alaska's VP of Loyalty, Brett Catlin, noted that more innovative features and announcements will come over the next six to nine months as the program evolves.

Notably, Mileage Plan members will soon be able to earn elite qualifying miles (EQMs) through credit card spending, award flights, and non-airline partners. These adjustments, along with milestone rewards, aim to increase value for members, while maintaining Alaska’s award chart structure.

With more changes expected over the next year, Alaska is positioning its loyalty program for a broader appeal without sacrificing its established perks.
