Kansas City Current co-owner, businesswoman, former soccer player, and stunning powerhouse Brittany Mahomes is not only a proud mom and soon-to-be mother again but also a devoted dog mom to her two pups: a Pit Bull named Steel and a Cane Corso named Silver.

Mahomes chatted with ParadePets and shared her life with her two beautiful pups and celebrity dog trainer and PetSafe spokesman Tom Davis offered us some fantastic dog training tips.

    ParadePets :

Steel and Silver are both big beautiful pups! Walk me through your daily routine with them.

    Brittany Mahomes:

Every day is different with Steel and Silver, but we always start off with breakfast and Sterling has gotten to the age where she loves to help me feed the pups! The dogs spend a lot of time outside playing and guarding our house. We love to get walks in as a family, and we always end the day with some snuggles on the couch once the kids go to bed.

    ParadePets :

What’s been the most rewarding part watching your babies grow up with your fur babies?

    Brittany Mahomes:

The most rewarding part has been seeing the bond between my kids and our dogs grow. They’ve learned so much about love, responsibility, and companionship from having pets, and watching them take care of and play with the dogs has been such a special experience.

    ParadePets :

Do your dogs have any funny quirks? Did they bond with each other quickly?

    Brittany Mahomes:

Steel loves to ‘talk’ back when he’s excited, and Silver always has to carry a toy around the house. They bonded pretty quickly—Steel was super curious at first, and Silver was a little more laid-back, but after a few days, they were inseparable.

    ParadePets :

As a busy parent, how complicated was setting up The Guardian GPS + Tracking Dog Fence and training Steel and Silver to use it? What’s the best feature of the system?

    Brittany Mahomes:
Setting up The Guardian GPS + Tracking Dog Fence was surprisingly simple since you do it all on your phone with an app.Training Steel and Silver was quick too—they picked it up faster than I expected. The best features are definitely the ability to take the fence collar with us no matter where we go and GPS tracking which gives me peace of mind knowing they’re safe and staying within the boundaries no matter where we take them.

Do you plan on adopting any more pups in the future?

    Brittany Mahomes:

Having dogs has brought so much joy to our family, but for now, we’re focused on Steel and Silver!

    ParadePets :

Do you have any fun holiday traditions with your dogs?

    Brittany Mahomes:

Every year, they get their own stockings filled with treats and toys. It’s so fun watching them open their stockings while we open ours!

He answered some of our training questions and explains why an old dog is never too old to learn new tricks.

What’s the number one mistake you most commonly see with people training their dogs?

The most common mistake I see is inconsistency. Many people are unclear or inconsistent with their commands and expectations, which can confuse the dog. I think people are also unaware of solutions that can make their, and their pets' lives, so much happier. For example, having a reliable solution that allows your dog to roam and play in the yard and gives you peace of mind that they are not going to run into the street or get lost is invaluable. That’s why I recommend the Guardian GPS + Tracking Fence Collar to my clients.

    ParadePets :

What’s the ideal scenario for dog training? Should your dog be walked before a session? First thing in the morning?

    Tom Davis:

The ideal scenario for dog training is when your dog is calm and focused, but still has some energy to engage. Walking your dog before a session can help burn off excess energy, making them more receptive to learning if they’re super high energy. However, you don’t want them to be too tired if their personality is normally more relaxed to begin with. I’ve seen most success with dogs that are hungry so I can use treats to train. Consistency with timing also helps build a routine, making training more effective.

    ParadePets :

Now be honest, is Miss Peaches as adorable in person as she is on social media?

    Tom Davis:

I can definitely confirm that Miss Peaches is as adorable in person as she is on social media. Dave really lucked out with such a gentle and sweet pup! They are perfect for each other.

    ParadePets :

What do you wish people understood about ‘aggressive’ dogs?

    Tom Davis:

I wish more people understood that most ‘aggressive’ dogs are reacting out of fear, anxiety, or insecurity, not true aggression. Often, these behaviors are a response to their environment or past experiences. With the right training, patience, and understanding, almost any dog can learn to feel safe and behave differently. It’s important to look beyond the behavior and understand the underlying cause.

    ParadePets :

How do you deal with another dog approaching your fearful dog on a walk?

    Tom Davis:

If another dog approaches your fearful dog, it’s important to stay calm and create space. I recommend stepping off to the side or turning around to avoid a direct confrontation. Keep your dog focused on you with treats or commands, and use your body to block the other dog if needed. Staying calm and not reacting helps your dog feel more secure, and over time, consistent positive experiences will help reduce their fear.

    ParadePets :

Is a dog ever too old to learn new tricks like obedience skills?

    Tom Davis:

No, a dog is never too old to learn new tricks or obedience skills! While younger dogs may pick things up faster, older dogs can still learn and benefit from training. It’s important to tailor the training to their physical abilities and to keep sessions short and positive. Training can also provide mental stimulation, which is beneficial for their overall well-being.

I would love to hear from the dog trainer, if only sickening Brittany wasn't in on it.
