This Michelin-Starred Taqueria Will Be Available In NYC For Just One Day Only

Just one of the 11,000 taquerias in Mexico is Michelin-starred. It is the first taqueria in the world to receive this prestigious recognition.

Located in Mexico City's San Rafael district, El Califa de León has been a beloved hangout for the locals since 1968. Enjoyed by locals for its limited menu consisting of tacos and homemade salsas, this restaurant is best savored at the counter or outside on the pavement.

There have been three-hour waits in line since the announcement, with many visitors and residents eager to sample the food. The taqueria is flying in for a unique New York pop-up for one day only.

El Califa de León will be at Tacombi Flatiron (30 West 24th Street) on October 16 from 6 to 10 p.m. Owner Mario Hernandez Alonso will be serving his four signature tacos for just one night:

the thinly sliced Gaonera (grass-fed beef tenderloin), the Costilla (grass-fed striploin), the Bistec (boneless pork tenderloin), and the Chuleta (grass-fed top round). He will also be serving his homemade salsas, which include a fiery green tomatillo and an earthy red guajillo.
