The Detroit Lions have arguably the best one-two punch in the NFL at the running back position in Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, so it's only fitting the impressive duo has a nickname.

After not having an official one since the two joined forces last year, Gibbs and Montgomery have come up with a nickname and they want everyone to know it: "Sonic and Knuckles."

If you're someone who has grown up in any generation since the 90s, you are quite familiar with the duo from the wildly popular "Sonic the Hedgehog" video games.

Just in case you aren't familiar, Gibbs is Sonic, who is more known for his speed, and Montgomery is Knuckles, who is more known for his power.

"I've been warned that that's what they wanna be called," running backs coach Scott Montgomery revealed, per The Athletic's Colton Pouncy.

The Lions inked Montgomery in free agency last offseason and he has been everything the franchise could've hoped for, and then some. In fact, the Lions have been so pleased with Montgomery that he was signed to an extension last week.

Detroit drafted Gibbs with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft just one month after Montgomery was signed, which led to some questions about the pick.

However, Gibbs has put those questions to bed after proving to be one of the better and most explosive young running backs in the NFL over his season-plus in the league.
