Travis Hunter Boldly Makes Case For Heisman Over Ashton Jeanty

Colorado Buffaloes star Travis Hunter is having a college football season unlike any fans have ever seen.

He's dominating on both sides of the ball while playing almost every single offensive and defensive snap.

In six games this season , Hunter has 49 receptions for 587 yards and six touchdowns at wide receiver. At cornerback, he has 16 tackles, three passes defended, two interceptions and one forced fumble.

While many would consider that Heisman worthy, another player in the conversation for the award is Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. He continues to make waves, having already accumulated 1,248 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on just 126 carries .

Hunter appeared as a guest on Robert Griffin III's podcast, " Outta Pocket with RGIII ."

The Heisman Trophy was a topic of discussion, and Hunter didn't shy away from making his case to win it.

"I know I can win it, but I don't know who's there," Hunter said. "I mean y'all see Ashton Jeanty but it's not like we haven't seen a running back that's good. We haven't seen a player that plays both ways and I'm gonna keep saying that."

Hunter mentioned Jeanty’s stats, stating that if he had the same amount of touches, his stats would be even better without considering his impact on defense.

"He have I think 95 carries for 1,000 yards," Hunter added. "If I had 95 catches, how much yards you think I have? I'm trying to tell him if I had 95 targets on defense what'd you think I'll have? If I had 95 catches on offense what you think I'll have? He got double the touches I got on the offensive side of the ball, and I still have defensive stats that's still crazy, and we only in Week 6. I'm not gonna argue about it."

Ahead of Week 8, ESPN BET currently lists Jeanty as the favorite to win the Heisman at +210. Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel is close behind at +325, and Travis Hunter follows at +600.

Hunter and the Buffaloes will take on the Arizona Wildcats this Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on Fox. Jeanty's Broncos are on a bye this week.
