(WJAR) — The national tour of musical comedy “Shucked” will launch at the Providence Performing Arts Center this weekend.</p><p>The Tony Award-winning show will run at PPAC from this Sunday through next Sunday, according to PPAC officials.</p><p>The show features a book by Robert Horn, who described it as a “hysterical, heartfelt, American musical” about learning to open your heart to people who are different that you.</p><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=3f7gM9_0w9N1C2400" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=3f7gM9_0w9N1C2400" width="648" height="365" ><p>“The wonderful thing about this show is it’s so unexpected, and yes, come because you want to laugh, come because you want to experience this kind of humor and this kind of joy with your family and friends. Come because you want to cry and see the unexpected,” Horn said. “It’s a non-traditional traditional musical.”</p><p>The show begins with protagonists Maizy and Beau getting engaged, cast members said.</p><p>Jake Odmark, who plays Beau in the musical, said that it’s rare to have a brand-new musical with a brand-new story and score, and that people involved have done a great job.</p><div style="position:relative;width:100%; height:0; padding-bottom: 56.25%;"><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/n7djRM8qPNQ?enablejsapi=1&version=3&playerapiid=ytplayer" frameborder="0" style="width:100%; height:100%;top:0; left:0; position:absolute"></iframe></div><p>“It’s funny but it’s going to hit you in the heart too, you’re going to be surprised,” he said. “The first ten minutes, you get a lot of jokes, and you’re thinking, ‘this is going to be a fun time,’ and all of a sudden, you’re starting to feel it in here a little bit, and at the end of the show, you might be weeping a little bit. That’s how it affected me.”</p><p>Two original Broadway cast members Miki Abraham and Quinn Vanantwerp are also in the national tour. Abraham, who plays Lulu, and Vanantwerp said the national tour will be a little different from the Broadway performance.</p><p>The tickets to the national tour launch of the musical comedy at PPAC can be found on its website.</p></div></body>
