ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - It's been two weeks since St. Louis County seniors could start applying for the long-awaited senior property tax freeze and the county says thousands of people have already applied.

St. Louis County Executive Sam Page says they have received over 17,000 applications already for the senior property tax freeze, with most being done with phones, tablets and computers.

75% of the applications have come through the web and the rest of the applications have been done in person .

Page says that the system has not been overwhelmed at all and says the rollout has been very efficient, saying they might have learned a thing or two from some of the other governments that have started the same process recently.

Page reminds folks who are applying for the senior property tax freeze that you cannot mail any documents or just drop them off.

The only way to apply is through an online portal .

There is no rush to apply as the deadline for the 2024 freeze is June 30, 2025. Residents must prove they are 62-years-old or older and show ownership of a property.
