Disgraced Grey’s Anatomy writer Elisabeth Finch has once again apologized for lying about surviving cancer and abuse amid the premiere of Peacock ‘s new documentary series Anatomy of Lies .

“The truth is, there is no excuse, no justification — nothing will ever make my lies to anyone okay,” Finch said in a statement on social media expressing her regret. “Nothing erases the trauma I caused — the fear, the pain, the anger, the tears, the time. And nothing matters more to me than holding myself accountable in every way.”

Featuring first-hand accounts from her former colleagues and loved ones, the three-part documentary uncovers how Finch lied about suffering from a rare form of cancer, amongst several other falsehoods, to seemingly help her get ahead in the Grey’s Anatomy writer’s room. The series expands on the chilling Vanity Fair exposés from reporter Evgenia Peretz, who co-directed the Peacock doc.

In her statement, Finch vowed to “continue to repair whatever damage I can and ensure I am not the worst things I’ve done.” Finch also claimed she has been receiving mental health treatment for almost three years.

“I trapped myself in the addiction of lies, betraying and traumatizing my closest family, friends, and colleagues,” she continued. “I’m making amends and expressing my genuine remorse as best I can when people are ready. And I’ve accepted the fact that some may never be… I work hard every day to sustain a life where the truth matters more than anything.”

The statement also directly addresses her ex-wife Jennifer Beyer, who was the first to raise the alarm about Finch by notifying Shonda Rhimes directly. By that point, Finch was a star writer on the show and an executive producer. She also appeared in the Season 15 episode “Silent All These Years.”

After maintaining she “fell deeply, truly in love” with Beyer, Finch wrote, “The biggest mistake of my life (alongside lying about cancer in the first place) was saying ‘yes’ to Jennifer’s proposal before I was honest with her.”

Beyer appears in Anatomy of Lies alongside her kids to discuss how she became suspicious of Finch after they got married. The couple met at a mental health center in 2019 where Finch was registered under the name Jo, seemingly as a nod to Camilla Luddington’s Grey’s character Dr. Jo Wilson.

Beyer and Finch’s colleagues did not hold back in the doc as they outlined the countless lies Finch told them over the years. In addition to lying about receiving treatment for chondrosarcoma, a rare form of cancer, she also lied about tragically losing a friend in the 2018 Tree of Life mass shooting, amongst several other fabrications.

Her former colleagues claimed Finch became an authority in the writer’s room on topics such as PTSD, abuse and cancer because of the experiences she claimed to have survived.

“It felt like whether or not people had stories, Finch’s was worse and she had more authority to speak on it,” former writer Kiley Donovan recalled in the doc.

“We actually had a term for it in our room where we would say, ‘We got Finch’d,'” she said. “I remember thinking that it almost felt like a form of control.”

All three episodes of Anatomy of Lies are now streaming on Peacock.
