The FIU Panthers visit El Paso, Texas tonight to face the UTEP Miners in Conference USA action at the Sun Bowl. CBS Sports Network has live coverage starting at 9 p.m. ET.

FIU pushed CUSA leader Liberty in a 31-24 OT loss last week. We were on the underdog Panthers getting double-digit points and cashed a nice ticket.

This time around, it's FIU playing the unusual role of favorite against the winless Miners. What's the right side tonight?

Let's find out as we offer up FIU vs. UTEP odds and prop bets on highly-rated sports betting apps to come up with a prediction.

FIU vs. UTEP odds: Spread, moneyline, total for Tuesday, Oct. 15

FIU opened as a 3.5-point favorite, but bettors hammered the Panthers up to a full TD in early Week 8 wagering action.

    FIU betting news and analysis

FIU (2-4 SU, 3-3 ATS) gave Liberty all it wanted in the OT loss last week. The Panthers did their damage on the ground, with Kejon Owens, Keyone Jenkins and Dean Patterson each scoring a rushing TD.

FIU has dropped two straight games to UTEP, but we like its chances to snap that skid tonight. Owens, FIU's lead RB, had 81 rushing yards and a TD in last year's 27-14 loss to UTEP.  Jenkins also played well at QB with 216 yards and a rushing score.

Jenkins ranks second in CUSA this season with nine passing TDs. Junior wide receiver Eric Rivers has been on the receiving end of three of those.

Jenkins averages 18.7 yards per catch through six games, 35th-best among all FBS players. Rivers is FIU's big-play threat, with 10 catches of at least 20 yards or more this season.

Junior linebacker Travion Barnes anchors FIU's defense. He's second in the nation with 11.7 total tackles per game. That's the best mark in CUSA.

    UTEP betting news & analysis

UTEP (0-6 SU, 1-5 ATS) enters tonight's tilt looking for its first win of the season. The Miners are 0-2 at home with losses to Southern Utah and Sam Houston.

First-year head coach Scotty Walden's team has averaged just 16 points per game. UTEP is a decent passing team, with an average of 225 yards per game.

WR Kenny Odom leads the Miners with 19 catches for 435 yards and four touchdowns. Kam Thomas has a team-high 34 catches for 339 yards and a touchdown.

Skyler Locklear and Cade McConnell have split QB duties for UTEP.   Locklear has thrown for 792 yards and three touchdowns. McConnell has 540 passing yards and four touchdowns.

Last year, it was McConnell completing 11-of-17 passes for 262 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win over FIU.

The Miners have struggled defensively, allowing 34.5 points per game so far in 2024. They give up an average of 235.5 rushing yards, and 207.8 passing yards per game.

UTEP has lost five of its six games by double digits this season.

FIU vs. UTEP ATTD scorer prop bets at FanDuel

Check out a sampling of anytime TD scorer bets for FIU vs. UTEP at FanDuel :

    • FIU Kejon Owens -140
    • LIB Ezell Jolly -130
    • FIU Eric Rivers +115
    • FIU Dean Patterson +130
    • FIU Lexington Joseph +120
    • UTEP Kenny Odom +145

Consider betting on Rivers to find the end zone at plus-money odds. UTEP's pass defense has been generous, and Rivers should be in line for more explosive plays tonight. He leads the Panthers with three receiving TDs this season.

FIU vs. UTEP prediction: Panthers keep Miners winless and cover ATS

FIU's feeling good about itself after nearly upsetting Liberty last week. The Panthers will also be in attack mode after losing two straight games to UTEP, which resides in the basement of the CUSA standings.

    Pick: FIU -7
