Exploring 10 Rams players and why they will or won't be dealt at the NFL trade deadline

The trade deadline is on Tuesday right after week 8, November 5. But big moves have already been made, with wide receivers Davante Adams and Amari Cooper changing teams. It's trade talk season, and the Los Angeles Rams will more likely than not be sellers.

The start of the season wasn't as good as fans would have expected, so it makes sense to recalibrate the thought process and acquire assets for the future.

Therefore, we will list ten players and evaluate if they are tradable or not, taking into consideration the contract and overall value and situation of each piece.

    QB Matthew Stafford - no

That's a hard one because trading Stafford away would open $15.2 million in cap space right now and $31 million in each of the next two seasons. However, the dead Money would still be huge, and the Rams don't have a succession plan in place at the moment.

Perhaps Stafford will be too old when the Rams are ready to compete, but the bad start is much more connected with injuries than the lack of a plan. If they are healthier next season, which is likely, the Rams can realistically compete for a playoff spot, and Stafford is a big part of that consideration.

    WR Demarcus Robinson - yes

Robinson is a useful player, but with Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua expected to return this season, his role will get smaller and smaller. He is 30 and is playing under a one-year contract, so he's slated to hit free agency next offseason. The question here is if any team would be willing to give up some draft capital, but moving Robinson at the deadline would create $1.32 million in cap space for the Rams.

    TE Colby Parkinson - no

Parkinson has been a solid tight end for the Rams, and even if Tyler Higbee is expected to return from a serious knee injury this season, it's impossible to know for sure how healthy he will be. Parkinson is cheap and is under contract through 2026, so unless a team makes an unrealistic offer, the Rams are keeping him.

    QB Jimmy Garoppolo - yes

This is the type of move a losing team must be willing to make ahead of the trade deadline. Jimmy Garoppolo is 32 and his past season for the Raiders was really bad. His deal is cheap enough for a contending team to add in terms of insurance for a starting quarterback, but the Rams should be comfortable moving him and allowing youngster Stetson Bennett to backup Stafford. If a team acquires Garoppolo, it would absorb $570k from the Rams, who would have $2.47 million in dead money.

    WR Tutu Atwell - no

Atwell is in the last year of his deal, which prompts his appearance on this list. However, he is 25 and is a decent role player. It's hard to imagine anyone paying the necessary value to take him out of LA, and the Rams have a realistic chance of re-signing him next offseason without spending a lot of money.

    RB Kyren Williams - no

Sean McVay loves Kyren Williams. I mean, loves. It's fair to think that the Rams would be willing to give the starting job to Blake Corum if a team is willing to give up a lot for Williams, but the Rams have no reason to take it. The current starter is under contract through 2025, it's pretty cheap, and the running back market is so undervalued that it's easy to keep him long-term.

    RT Rob Havenstein - no

Moving Havenstein, who's 32, at the deadline would open up $3.44 million in cap space for Los Angeles, but this is not a significant enough amount to justify trading away a starting offensive line considering how much the Rams have struggled at the position. After all, they need to keep Matthew Stafford healthy.

    CB Tre'Davious White - yes

That's a big yes because White is 29 and he has been awful this season — he was a healthy scratch against the Packers in week 6. Maybe White might play better elsewhere, and opening up $794k in cap space is enough of a reason for the Rams to pull the trigger.

    EDGE Mike Hoecht - yes

The Rams have Byron Young and Jared Verse ahead of Hoecht, who has been a useful pass rusher. Moving him would open up $1.58 million in cap space, and the defender is in the last year of his deal.

    CB Darious Williams - yes

The Rams would have something around $2.8 million in dead money now and $2.32 million next season by trading Williams, so it's financially feasible. When I started writing this one, I was leaning no because he's a starter and an important piece with two years left on his deal after this season. However, Williams is 32 and is not exactly a building block. It would take real draft compensation, but it doesn't seem impossible to take him out of the Rams.
