If the New York Yankees make it to the World Series, there's a chance they get some major reinforcements in the pitching staff.

Out since Sept. 25 when he suffered a flexor strain in his left elbow, former All-Star Nestor Cortes has a chance to make the World Series roster.

Manager Aaron Boone told reporters Wednesday that Cortes had a live bullpen session and if all goes well, he would have another over the weekend.

Boone also mentioned that Cortes is very much in play to make the World Series roster if the Yankees get there.

While the Yankees have gotten some extremely strong innings out of the bullpen, adding Cortes to the unit would be a major addition.

Even though he spent the season working as a starter, it's likely the Yankees would roll with their current starting rotation that consists of Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Clarke Schmidt and Luis Gil.

The Yankees currently have Tim Hill and Tim Mayza as the lefties in the bullpen, but Cortes would bring a different element considering his ability to eat up innings.

Of course, the Yankees have to make it to the World Series first, and they're halfway there after taking the first two games of the American League Championship Series.

But this will certainly be something to watch over the next week depending on how the rest of the series goes.
