This is the longest stretch Suzanne Somers’ husband has had to live without his wife in 56 years, as the actress died on October 15, 2023, a day shy of her 77th birthday. It’s going to be a long ride for the 88-year-old, but he has memories of his wife’s love to keep him for the rest of his life.

Alan stated that their story started in 1969 when a “big-city guy from Toronto” met a “small” blue-collar town girl and decided to be with each other. Though both of them were previously married, they didn’t let that stop them from chasing true love.

He recalled that the day they met, Suzanne happily told her mother she had found the man she’d marry, and the late actress worked towards fulfilling the dream. At that instance, the couple knew it “was real, not a flirting moment.”

Although Alan and Suzanne didn’t have any biological children of their own, they formed a close-knit family with their kids from previous marriages: Bruce Somers Jr., Stephen Hamel, and Leslie Hamel. Alan said Suzanne made it her life purpose, she “declared that she would put our two families together and create one magnificent family – that she did.” Though it wasn’t an easy feat as they would fight like “mad dogs” at the start of their relationship.

Alan and Suzanne always “returned to their passionate love for one another”

Suzanne understood the need for a solid relationship foundation as she made her husband promise that, ‘No matter how bad it gets, let’s never break up.” Sadly, she used her death to break up with him.

However, Alan is pressing on and using the memories of her “sparkling mini dresses,” “killer legs,” and “nighttime makeup” to appreciate the “great love” they shared. He honored her on the first year anniversary of her death and gave his tribute online via TODAY’S Facebook Live.
