Southern California is in for a cooling trend through Friday, as gusty winds and a deepening marine layer bring changes to coastal, valley, and mountain areas. The National Weather Service in San Diego forecasts continued cooling, with drizzle possible Thursday morning and a chance of light showers late Thursday into Friday. Winds are expected to ramp up, especially in the mountains and deserts, where gusts of up to 50 MPH may occur by Thursday evening.

The low-pressure system driving this weather is moving southeast from the central California coast, bringing patchy clouds and cooler temperatures. The marine layer, which has spread over coastal regions, is expected to deepen, leading to cloudy conditions near the coast through Thursday.

On Friday, the winds will shift to a north-northwest direction, with gusts in the 30-40 MPH range through Cajon Pass, contributing to dry conditions. The coolest temperatures are expected Thursday along the coast and Friday in the mountains and deserts.
