The Week 7 matchup between No. 2-ranked Ohio State and No. 3-ranked Oregon in Eugene might have been the matchup of the year. The Ducks got the best of the Buckeyes, securing a 32-31 victory on their home field.

For the Buckeyes, the game acts as a learning lesson. Oregon head coach Dan Lanning was intentionally flagged late in the game to give the Buckeyes five yards, but the clock went from ten seconds to six seconds.

Ohio State's late-game management is certainly something to learn and something head coach Ryan Day and quarterback Will Howard can build upon the loss.

With the contest, the Ducks jumped Ohio State, now being ranked No. 2 in the nation with the Buckeyes sliding to the No. 3 spot. Fortunately for the Buckeyes, a loss in the regular season means significantly less with the 12-team College Football Playoff format.

A unique wrinkle to the 2024 college football season -- now that conference realignment has arrived -- is potential rivalries sparking. Oregon is knocking on the door as one of the best active programs behind Lanning, whereas Ohio State is a blue blood.

Now that the Ducks took down the Buckeyes, there is some bad blood before their next matchup. One Ohio State five-star recruit, Devin Sanchez, had some words about Oregon following the upset loss.

"tell you we got see dem f--- n----- again," Sanches wrote on social media.

The new-look Big Ten could have a rivalry brewing. Recruits are getting in on the action. A meeting in the playoffs could certainly spark a rivalry between the two programs, who consistently project to be atop the conference for years to come.

The five-star prospect from Houston, TX, will be with the team next season as he's the No. 5 player in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports .
