As a retired small businessman I have a mindset to reduce costs and get things done efficiently.  My entire career was as a small business operator; A sub shop, dry cleaners and coin laundries and rental houses.  I never missed a payroll and paid off in full every dollar I ever borrowed. <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> 2. What do you believe to be the three most pressing issues facing the next General Assembly? What steps do you believe the state should take to address them? Poor results from our public Schools.  More competition from charters. Poor productivity in state gov’t.  Reduce the workforce, improve technology Rebuilding western NC after Helene.  All hands on deck! 3. To what extent do you support municipalities exerting local control over issues such as regulating greenhouse gas emissions, criminal justice reforms and police oversight, and passing development-regulating ordinances? Governance is divided into areas of overlapping  jurisdictions.  Policing and zoning are municipal responsibilities, the others are not. <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> 4. Do you support raising North Carolina’s minimum wage, and if so, by how much? No.   It is not necessary. Let the market place determine wages. From Ziprecruiter: As of Sep 27, 2024, the average hourly pay for a Hourly in North Carolina is $22.57 an hour. While ZipRecruiter is seeing salaries as high as $38.45 and as low as $15.51, the majority of Hourly salaries currently range between $22.74 (25th percentile) to $25.34 (75th percentile) in North Carolina. 5. What, if anything, should the state legislature do to address the growing affordability crisis and support low-income families in North Carolina? I am not sure. 6. What is your vision for transit in North Carolina? What kind of regional transit systems should the state work to implement and what kind of transit legislation would you support? <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> The Triangle needs a working Bus system.  Ridership is ridiculously low.  We are probably decades away from rail mass transit.   We probably need to maintain and improve our bridges better. 7. Would you support an independent process for drawing new legislative and congressional districts? No. 8. Do you support expanding funding for Opportunity Scholarships? Do you believe the legislature has a role in ensuring that private schools don’t further raise tuition on families and taxpayers with the infusion of hundreds of millions of dollars into the private school economy?  Please explain your answer. Vouchers should be expanded for lower income families.  College tuitions outpaced inflation for decades because of cheap student loans and excessive grants.  Hopefully we can avoid that self imposed disaster. <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> 9.  North Carolina is one of the lowest-paying states for teachers in the nation. Schools across the state are facing shortages of educators, support staff, and other key personnel. By what percentage should the next budget raise wages for teachers and school employees? What else can the General Assembly do to improve working conditions for teachers and make the teaching profession more attractive to potential future educators? I am not sure of the %age wage increase needed.  We are too heavy with support staff and admins.  Without Federal mandates we would be better off. 10. North Carolina bans abortion after 12 weeks’ gestation. Do you think abortion access in North Carolina should be expanded or further restricted, or do you support the current law? <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> I will not vote to further restrict abortions in NC beyond what current law allows. 11. Do you support reforming North Carolina’s marijuana laws? Do you support full legalization? Please explain your position. I do not support Marijuana legalization.  If it is legalized, though, public consumption should be banned, like ABC laws for alcohol. 12. Do you support strengthening gun safety regulations such as expanding background checks, banning bump stocks, and raising the age to buy or otherwise regulating the sales of assault-style weapons? Please explain. I am a firm supporter of the 2nd Amendment.  Licensure seems  necessary, but the  laws should be reasonable. 13.
